WHY HALLPRINT TAGS?
BECAUSE FISH TAGS ARE NOT FISH TAGS…….
Key criteria for any fish tags are that they should –
·have a high and known retention rate including during the recapture process
·be easily detected and readable when the tagged fish is recaptured
·not significantly injure, kill or effect the behaviour of the fish
·not increase or decrease catchability or predation pressure
Hallprint fish tags were launched by its founder the late Michael (Mike) Hall in 1982 following approaches from fisheries scientists (including his son David, now Hallprint Managing Director) disillusioned with tags that basically fell apart or were unreadable after periods of time in the marine environment. Mike’s legacy is a company producing a collection of “conventional” fish tags that truly enable fisheries researchers to use tagging as an effective research and management tool.
Hallprint tags have proven time and again to lead the world in terms of the durability of our markers. We have been manufacturing fish tags since 1982 and regularly have fish tags returned after more than 15 years at liberty in an entirely readable state. Compare the legibility of the markers after 15 years with the competition. Independent scientific publications and unsolicited testimonials point to the superior legibility and longevity of Hallprint markers compared with other products available on the world market -
“We’ve used these tags (PDL) for about 20 years now and the results have been wonderful in that we can read tags that are 15 years old, whereas a competitor’s tag becomes illegible after 5 years or so” (unsolicited e-mail, US based researcher August 2003).
“Failure rates (printing loss or tag loss) were about six times higher for the (competitor’s) tags (36%) than the Hallprint tags (6%)” (Henderson-Arzapalo et al. (1998) North American Journal of Fisheries Management Vol.19, No.2, pp 482-493 – referring to internal anchor tags).
“I am glad to see that you are still in business because your tags are the best in the industry.” (US based senior researcher May 2003).
At Hallprint we have countless other unsolicited testimonials about our superb product from long term customers. And as for our service –
“I really appreciate the careful thought that you are putting into our order
- that's one of the things that makes dealing with you such a pleasure” (Canadian based senior researcher April 2003).
“What splendid service you give us” ( Elinor Bullen, Tagging Program Manager, Oceanographic Research Institute, Durban South Africa, December 2002).
Our unique single moulded construction on our T-bar anchor, dart, lock-on and body cavity anchor tags ensure that the tags do not fall apart over time while protecting vital print information from the elements. Beware of cheap imitations that are actually glued together or held together with bits of hardware. Our shellfish tags and streamer tags are made of specially formulated, high quality polyethylene or polyolefin material using the latest in print technology to ensure an indelible mark. Just looking at our tags and comparing them with the opposition will show clear quality differences.
Our quality edge flows through to superior quality control, labelling and packaging of tags in sequential order to make your job - and that of your technicians or volunteer taggers - so much easier in the field. Our packaging ensures a professional, orderly appearance as well as protection for the tags. Compare this with our competition.
Compare also the level and quality of advice. Your order will be dealt with personally by David Hall, a former fisheries scientist and senior administrator. David will discuss with you the optimal tagging solution for your needs and will do this drawing from many years practical experience tagging fish and running government fish tagging programs. We will also do our utmost to get tags to you when you need them and will always quote the full (delivered) cost of your tags within 48 hours of receiving the full specifications. Unlike our competition, we will not charge extra for rush jobs and will not on-sell other companies' unlabelled clothing tags for many times what it would cost you to buy from them direct.
We urge you to think hard about choosing your next batch of fish tags and speak to an experienced former scientist who knows and understands fish tagging and the critical quality differences between our tags and the competition.
All of this leads to one logical solution –
Hallprint tags are without doubt the world's best external fish tags.
